Rytr pricing has three plans: Free at $0, Unlimited at $9 a month ($7.50 a month billed yearly) and Premium at $29 a month ($24.16 a month billed yearly). Both paid plans remove the character cap. Premium adds 35+ languages, multiple Tone Matches and 100 plagiarism checks a month.
Every figure below comes from Rytr’s official pricing page and its Terms of Use, checked on 7 October 2026. Rytr changes plans from time to time, so confirm there before you pay.
In this breakdown, you’ll get:
- All three plans side by side, monthly and yearly
- What the free plan and the “Unlimited” label really mean
- Rytr’s refund and cancellation rules, in plain English
- What writing a full book on Rytr costs, and where Rytr beats Chapter
Here are the plans.
How Much Does Rytr Cost?
Rytr costs $0 on Free, $9 a month on Unlimited and $29 a month on Premium. Billed yearly, Unlimited drops to $7.50 a month ($90 a year) and Premium to $24.16 a month ($290 a year). Prices are in US dollars, charged through Stripe.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing | Characters | Tone Match | Plagiarism checks | Languages |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 10,000 per month | None | None | 1 |
| Unlimited | $9/month | $7.50/month ($90/year) | Unlimited | 1 | 50 per month | 1 |
| Premium | $29/month | $24.16/month ($290/year) | Unlimited | Multiple | 100 per month | 35+ |
The pricing page loads on yearly billing by default, so the first numbers you see are $7.50 and $24.16. Flip the toggle to “Monthly” to see the $9 and $29 you’d pay without a 12-month commitment.
What Do You Get on the Rytr Free Plan?
The Rytr free plan gives you 10,000 characters of AI generation a month, with no credit card required and no time limit. It includes one language and the standard use cases, but no Tone Match, no plagiarism checks and no Chrome extension.
Ten thousand characters is roughly 1,500 to 1,800 words a month.
It’s a genuine free tier, not a trial that converts to a charge. For testing whether Rytr’s style suits you, it’s enough. For any real writing project, it runs out in a single sitting.
What Does Rytr Unlimited Include?
Rytr Unlimited costs $9 a month or $90 a year and includes unlimited generations, 1 custom Tone Match, 50 plagiarism checks a month, a doubled input limit and the Chrome extension with 20+ preset tones. It stays limited to one language.
“Unlimited” refers to characters, not features. You still get one language and one custom voice.
Rytr’s Terms of Use also reference a fair usage policy. Rytr allows one account per person and reserves the right to restrict accounts that break that policy. We couldn’t find a published number for where “fair use” ends, so treat that limit as unverified.
What Does Rytr Premium Add?
Rytr Premium costs $29 a month or $290 a year. On top of Unlimited, it adds 35+ languages, multiple Tone Matches, 100 plagiarism checks a month, a tripled input limit, custom use cases, priority support and access to an exclusive community.
Rytr pitches Premium at freelancers who write for several brands. The extra Tone Matches let you keep a separate voice per client.
If you write in one language for one brand, Unlimited covers almost everything Premium does. The tripled input limit matters only if you paste long source material into prompts.
Does Rytr Have a Free Trial or Refunds?
Rytr has no free trial of the paid plans, because the permanent Free plan fills that role. Rytr’s terms say subscriptions cannot be refunded, though the company may grant refunds case by case at its sole discretion. Cancelling stops renewal; you keep access until the period ends.
To cancel, the terms tell you to contact [email protected]. The pricing FAQ says you can also manage your plan from the credits section of your account.
The yearly plan comes with a 12-month commitment. That’s the real risk: if Rytr stops fitting your work in month two, you’ve still paid $90 or $290 up front, with no guaranteed refund.
Is Rytr Monthly or Yearly Billing Better Value?
Yearly billing is better value only if you’ll use Rytr for most of the year. The pricing toggle promises “2 months free”: you pay for 10 months and get 12. That works out to a 16.7% discount, saving you $18 on Unlimited or $58 on Premium.
One inconsistency: Rytr’s FAQ says the annual plan saves “20% off the total price.” The posted prices ($90 vs $108, $290 vs $348) work out to about 16.7%. Trust the prices, not the percentage.
For a project with an end date, such as a single book, a product launch or a busy season, monthly billing is safer. Three months of Unlimited costs $27, and you can walk away when you’re done.
What Does It Cost to Write a Book With Rytr?
Writing a book with Rytr costs $9 to $29 a month in subscription fees. An 80,000-word novel is roughly 450,000 to 500,000 characters, which is about four years of the free plan’s allowance. So in practice, a book means a paid plan.
| Scenario | Plan | Total cost |
|---|---|---|
| Draft a book over 3 months | Unlimited, monthly | $27 |
| Draft a book over 6 months | Unlimited, monthly | $54 |
| Use Rytr for a full year | Unlimited, yearly | $90 |
| Write in a non-English language for a year | Premium, yearly | $290 |
| One book on Chapter, plus a second | One-time purchase | $97 |
The sticker price is the cheap part. Rytr is built for short-form copy: emails, ads, product descriptions, blog sections. It generates text in short bursts with no memory of your wider manuscript, no outline that carries through the book and no manuscript export.
That means you supply the structure, track the characters and stitch hundreds of short outputs into chapters by hand. Our honest look at Rytr for writing a book walks through where that workflow breaks down.
You’ll also need an editing pass. Short-form AI output tends to repeat phrases across sessions, and our guide to humanizing AI writing for a book covers what to fix first. For a wider view of total costs, see how much AI book writing really costs.
How Does Rytr Pricing Compare to Other AI Writing Tools?
Rytr is one of the cheapest paid AI writing tools available. Its $9 Unlimited plan costs a fraction of Jasper’s $69-per-seat Pro plan, and it keeps a permanent free tier that Jasper doesn’t offer.
- Rytr vs Jasper: Jasper costs far more and earns it with brand voice and team tools. See our Jasper vs Rytr comparison and the full Jasper pricing breakdown.
- Rytr vs ChatGPT: ChatGPT’s paid tiers cost more but handle longer context and more varied tasks. Compare them in ChatGPT vs Rytr and ChatGPT pricing.
- Rytr vs Writesonic: Both target marketers on a budget. Our Rytr vs Writesonic guide breaks down the differences.

Where Rytr Beats Chapter
Rytr beats Chapter in several real ways, and you should know them before you choose.
- It’s free to start. Rytr’s Free plan costs nothing and needs no card. Chapter has no free tier or free trial. You pay $97 up front, backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- It’s cheaper for short projects. One or two months of Rytr Unlimited costs $9 to $18. If you only need help with a few chapters, that’s less than Chapter’s one-time price.
- It does short-form copy. Ad copy, product descriptions, social captions, email replies and SEO meta titles are Rytr’s home ground. Chapter is built for books and doesn’t try to do these.
- It works where you write. The Chrome extension brings Rytr into the web apps you already use in your browser. Chapter is its own book-writing workspace.
- It covers more languages on Premium. Premium supports 35+ languages, which suits you if you write marketing copy across several markets.
If you need a cheap everyday assistant for business copy, Rytr is the better buy.
Why Chapter Is Still Our Pick for Writing a Book
Our Pick — Chapter
Chapter is built to write a whole book, not a paragraph at a time. You set up your idea, Chapter builds a chapter-by-chapter outline and drafts the full manuscript with that outline in mind, so your characters, arguments and structure hold together from page one to the end.
Best for: authors who want a complete fiction or nonfiction book, not a pile of fragments Pricing: $97 one time, 2 books included (fiction or nonfiction), 30-day money-back guarantee Why we built it: short-form tools like Rytr leave you doing the hardest part of a book, the structure, by hand.
The cost comparison shifts once you count the whole job. With Rytr, $27 buys three months of short outputs, and you still do the outlining, continuity tracking and assembly yourself. With Chapter, $97 covers two complete books, with no subscription to remember and 100% of the rights staying with you.
More than 10,000 authors have used Chapter to create books, and Chapter has been featured in USA Today and the New York Times. Read our Chapter review, which includes who it’s not for, or see the full guide to writing a book with AI.
